Spangled Ginger
Spangled Ginger (#FBAE0D) is a true amber with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. As a color modifier, spangled implies a saturated-and-multi-point-reflective quality, the bright color of American-flag-stars and sequined-fabric metallic-disc-and-jewel-decoration. Sits at the bright-and-reflective end of the grid, parallel to glittering and sequined in usage.
Zingiber officinale, the rhizome of a Southeast Asian ginger plant cultivated since prehistoric times in Maritime Asia. The color refers to fresh ginger root after its papery skin is peeled: a warm, slightly pink-toned gold-tan that's lighter than honey and warmer than wheat. Also the human hair color called ginger in British English — the same word covering the rhizome, the spice, and the Celtic-coded redhead.
