Parchment Periwinkle
Parchment Periwinkle (#BEBDDC) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (242°, 31%, 80%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary yellow. Old French parchemin, parchment — adjectival usage of parchment. As a color modifier, parchment implies a pale-and-aged-and-translucent quality, the pale color of medieval-and-Renaissance hand-prepared calfskin-and-goatskin parchment-and-vellum manuscript-paper surface-finish. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to vellum and glassine in usage.
Vinca minor, the trailing groundcover of European woodland whose pale blue-violet flowers gave English the color name in the eighteenth century. Distinct from Catharanthus roseus (Madagascar periwinkle, the source of vincristine for chemotherapy). The color refers to the corolla of a fresh Vinca flower: a soft, slightly violet-shifted pale blue with the matte finish of five-petaled bloom. Lighter than bluebell, cooler than lavender.
