Engraved Ginkgo
Engraved Ginkgo (#988B14) is a deep amber with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (54°, 77%, 34%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French engraver, to dig in — past-participle of engrave. As a color modifier, engraved implies a clear-and-precisely-cut quality, the crisp color of Albrecht-Dürer-and-Hogarth hand-pulled engraving-print fine-line incised-image. Sits at the crisp-and-incised end of the grid, parallel to etched and inscribed in usage.
Ginkgo biloba, the Chinese tree species predating dinosaurs — a living fossil whose fan-shaped leaves turn brilliant yellow in autumn. Often called the maidenhair tree. The color refers to a Ginkgo canopy at peak autumn color: a saturated, slightly cool deep yellow with the satin finish of carotenoid-rich autumn leaves.
