Crisp Tribe Topaz

Latin crispus, curled — drifted in English from the curled hair sense to fresh and clean. As a color modifier, crisp implies saturation combined with optical clarity, with no haze or film between the eye and the surface. Used across the bright and crisp buckets where the hue is fresh-looking. Slightly less assertive than vivid.

Latin tribus, one-of-three-original-tribes. As a color modifier, tribe implies a kin-and-clan-and-extended-family quality, the visual register of pre-modern-tribal-and-kinship hand-built tent-and-totem-and-elder-council clan-and-kinship surfaces under pre-modern tribal-and-kinship hand-built encampment-and-elder-council firelight. Sits at the modifier-and-cultural end of the grid, parallel to clan and kin in usage.

A fluorine aluminum silicate gem, hardness 8 on the Mohs scale, mined for centuries in Ouro Preto, Brazil. Imperial topaz is the prized variety: a warm, slightly pink-shifted gold-orange with the high refractive index of a quality cut stone. Cooler than amber, brighter than honey, with the gem's signature internal fire when held to light. Named for the island of Topazos in the Red Sea, though that source produced peridot instead.
