Twilit Merlot
Twilit Merlot (#731F13) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. It works well as a headline, icon, or deep background in an otherwise light layout, pairing cleanly with cream, bone, and warm neutrals. Etymology
An adjectival form of twilight, coined in the late nineteenth century. Twilit describes a color seen at twilight — the slight cooling and desaturation that low ambient light introduces. Sits in the deep-and-cool corner, lighter than somber and bluer than shadowed. Almost exclusively literary.
A Bordeaux red-wine grape — softer, fruitier, earlier-ripening than Cabernet Sauvignon, and the most-planted red grape in France. The color refers to a young Merlot from Saint-Émilion in a glass: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the optical clarity of mid-tannin wine. Lighter than Cabernet, warmer than Pinot.
