Squared Inked Verdigris

Latin quadrātus, four-sided — past-participle of square. As a color modifier, squared implies a clear-and-rectilinear-and-orthogonal quality where the hue carries the visual register of right-angle architectural-and-grid alignment. Sits at the crisp-and-balanced end of the grid, parallel to aligned and plumb in usage.

Old French enque, ink. As a color modifier, inked implies a hand-inked-line quality, the visual register of medieval-and-Renaissance-inked hand-inked-and-pen-and-ink quill-and-iron-gall-ink hand-inked-and-pen-line surfaces under medieval-and-Renaissance hand-inked-pen-and-quill scriptorium-light. The basic copper carbonate that forms on weathered copper and bronze — the pigment scraped from oxidized metal and used in Renaissance painting before being supplanted by more stable greens. The color refers to a thick verdigris on aged copper roofing or the Statue of Liberty's surface: a soft, slightly muted blue-green with the powdery finish of mineral oxide.
