Martes zibellina, the Eurasian sable — a small mustelid of Siberian taiga whose deep brown-black fur was the most prized mammalian pelt of the Russian and Chinese imperial courts. Madras color refers to a Madras-checked indigo-and-white cotton handloom: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of multi-bath fermentation indigo on hand-loomed Coromandel cotton.
