Tailored Yomi
Tailored Yomi (#100A2B) is a deep indigo with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (251°, 62%, 10%) places it in the balanced band at a dark lightness. Etymology
Old French tailleor, cutter — past-participle of tailor. As a color modifier, tailored implies a neutral-and-fitted-and-precise quality, the neutral color of Savile-Row-and-Gucci-tailoring hand-cut-and-fitted-precise gentleman's-and-lady's-tailoring craft-finish. Sits at the neutral-and-traditional end of the grid, parallel to fitted and bespoke in usage.
Japanese 黄泉, Yomi — the Shinto-mythological land of the dead beneath the earth, accessible through the Yomotsu Hirasaka slope, where Izanami dwells after dying in childbirth. Yomi color refers to a Heian-period Yomi depiction in a Genji Monogatari Emaki scroll-painting: a saturated, slightly cool deep black with the matte finish of sumi-ink-and-shu (cinnabar) mineral-pigment on silk.
