Inflamed Sunstone
Inflamed Sunstone (#FF7F3B) is a true orange with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (21°, 100%, 62%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary azure. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin inflammātus, set on fire — past-participle of inflame. As a color modifier, inflamed implies a saturated-and-irritated-hot quality, the bright color of sun-burnt-skin and autumn-leaf high-anthocyanin pigmentation. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to fiery and flaming in usage.
A feldspar variety with copper-mineral inclusions that scatter light into a flickering orange-red sheen. Mined principally in Oregon (the only US state with sunstone as official gem) and Norway. The color refers to a polished Oregon sunstone cabochon: a saturated, slightly red orange with the optical complexity of light scattering off internal copper plates. Warmer than citrine.
