Old English spearca, spark — present-participle of spark. As a color modifier, sparking implies a saturated-and-electrical-emission quality, the bright color of welding-arc-and-Tesla-coil high-voltage spark-discharge emission. The genus Phoenicopterus — wading birds whose pink-orange plumage comes from carotenoid pigments in the brine shrimp and algae they eat. The color refers to a Caribbean flamingo's neck plumage: a soft, slightly cool pink-orange with the matte finish of dietary-pigmented feathers. Cooler than coral, warmer than salmon.
