Fiery Garance
Fiery Garance (#FD80BE) is a soft magenta with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (330°, 97%, 75%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old English fȳr, fire — adjectival suffix -y. As a color modifier, fiery implies a saturated-and-bright-flaming quality, the bright color of autumn-foliage fall-color and forge-furnace hot-iron emission. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to flaming and blazing in usage.
The French word for madder — Rubia tinctorum — and the dye that colored French military uniforms from the eighteenth century until garance was replaced by synthetic alizarin in 1869. The color refers to garance-dyed French wool: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the matte finish of plant-and-mordant dye. The French equivalent of madder.
