Engraved Yaqut
Engraved Yaqut (#FCBCCD) is a soft red with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (344°, 91%, 86%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French engraver, to dig in — past-participle of engrave. As a color modifier, engraved implies a clear-and-precisely-cut quality, the crisp color of Albrecht-Dürer-and-Hogarth hand-pulled engraving-print fine-line incised-image. Sits at the crisp-and-incised end of the grid, parallel to etched and inscribed in usage.
The Arabic word for ruby and other precious red gems — used across Islamic poetry from al-Mutanabbi onward as a metaphor for the lips of beloved or the wine in a goblet. The color refers to a polished Yemeni red garnet or Burmese ruby: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the gem's signature internal life. Cooler than ruby, deeper than crimson.
