Spangled Kohbai
Spangled Kohbai (#FC99CE) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. As a color modifier, spangled implies a saturated-and-multi-point-reflective quality, the bright color of American-flag-stars and sequined-fabric metallic-disc-and-jewel-decoration. Sits at the bright-and-reflective end of the grid, parallel to glittering and sequined in usage.
Japanese 紅梅, red plum-blossom (Prunus mume var. kohbai) — the deep-pink-flowered cultivar of Japanese plum, a traditional New Year color in Heian-period kasane no irome layered silks. Kohbai color refers to a fully bloomed kohbai plum branch in February: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the velvet finish of fresh plum-blossom petals against bare branches in early-spring snow.
