Torrid Loquat

Latin torridus, parched / scorching — sharing root with torrēre (to dry by heat). Eriobotrya japonica, the East Asian rosaceous fruit — cultivated in China, Japan, and southern Europe for its slightly tart yellow-orange drupes. The color refers to a ripe Mediterranean loquat in May: a soft, slightly red yellow-orange with the satin finish of stone-fruit flesh. Lighter than apricot, cooler than tangerine.
