Old French tracier, to trace — sharing root with English trace and track. The genus Phoenicopterus — wading birds whose pink-orange plumage comes from carotenoid pigments in the brine shrimp and algae they eat. The color refers to a Caribbean flamingo's neck plumage: a soft, slightly cool pink-orange with the matte finish of dietary-pigmented feathers. Cooler than coral, warmer than salmon.
