Aflame Riviera
Aflame Riviera (#FC5009) is a true orange with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (18°, 98%, 51%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary cyan. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English on-flamme, on-fire. As a color modifier, aflame implies a saturated-and-burning-bright quality, the bright color of autumn-Maple-and-Oak peak-color deciduous-foliage and Bonfire-Night large-flame fire emission. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to flaming and blazing in usage.
The Mediterranean coast — particularly the Italian Riviera between Genoa and the French border, where stucco facades are limewashed in the warm orange-tan of terra di Genova. Riviera as a color refers to the limewashed walls of a Camogli or Cinque Terre village: a soft, slightly muted warm orange-tan with the matte finish of weathered limewash.
