Veiled Roselle
Veiled Roselle (#FBD5E5) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (335°, 83%, 91%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
The past participle of veil, to cover — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as if seen through a thin layer of fabric or mist. Veiled pink, veiled lavender: low saturation combined with the optical haziness of a slight obstruction. Sits across the hushed and pale buckets alongside gauzy.
Hibiscus sabdariffa, the tropical hibiscus whose dried calyxes brew the deep red sorrel tea sold across West Africa as bissap, in Egypt as karkadeh, and in the Caribbean as sorrel. The color refers to fresh roselle calyxes in hot water: a saturated, slightly cool deep red-pink with the optical complexity of anthocyanin-rich plant material. Cooler than coral.
