Dappled Rose
Dappled Rose (#FADCD9) is a soft red with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (5°, 77%, 92%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old Norse depill, spot / pool — past-participle of dapple. As a color modifier, dappled implies a pale-and-mottled-and-light-and-shadow-spotted quality, the pale color of summer-orchard sun-through-leaves dappled-light-and-shadow ground-pattern surface. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to speckled and mottled in usage.
The Latin rosa, the Greek rhodon, the Persian gul — every European language has a different name for the same flower and the same color. Rose covers the spectrum from blush to fuchsia depending on the cultivar, but in pigment shorthand it means a cool, slightly bluish red — the inside of a damask petal, the dye that washes out of madder root.
