Etched Borscht
Etched Borscht (#FACBE4) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (328°, 82%, 89%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. German ätzen, to etch — past-participle of etch. As a color modifier, etched implies a clear-and-precisely-incised quality, the crisp color of Rembrandt-and-Dürer hand-pulled etching-print fine-line incised-image. Sits at the crisp-and-incised end of the grid, parallel to engraved and inscribed in usage.
Eastern European beet-soup — particularly the Ukrainian and Polish bórshch and Russian borshch, made from Beta vulgaris roots and cabbage in a deep-magenta broth. Borscht color refers to a freshly served bowl of Ukrainian bórshch with a sour-cream swirl: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of betalain-pigmented beet broth. Slightly warmer than Belarusian barszcz.
