Engraved Eudialyte
Engraved Eudialyte (#FABAEB) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (314°, 86%, 85%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old French engraver, to dig in — past-participle of engrave. As a color modifier, engraved implies a clear-and-precisely-cut quality, the crisp color of Albrecht-Dürer-and-Hogarth hand-pulled engraving-print fine-line incised-image. Sits at the crisp-and-incised end of the grid, parallel to etched and inscribed in usage.
Rare zirconium-cyclosilicate first described from Greenland's Ilímaussaq Complex in 1819. The mineral's deep-raspberry-pink color comes from manganese substitution in the cyclosilicate ring sites. Eudialyte color refers to a polished Ilímaussaq eudialyte cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the glassy finish of complex zirconium-sodium-cyclosilicate. The Greek genus name eu-dialytos means easily decomposed in acid.
