Engraved Zinnia
Engraved Zinnia (#FAB49B) is a soft orange with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (16°, 90%, 79%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French engraver, to dig in — past-participle of engrave. As a color modifier, engraved implies a clear-and-precisely-cut quality, the crisp color of Albrecht-Dürer-and-Hogarth hand-pulled engraving-print fine-line incised-image. Sits at the crisp-and-incised end of the grid, parallel to etched and inscribed in usage.
The genus Zinnia — particularly Z. elegans, the Mexican wildflower bred into the cottage-garden classic by nineteenth-century European horticulturalists. The color refers to an orange Zinnia at peak bloom: a saturated, slightly red orange with the matte finish of dahlia-form composite flower. Brighter than marigold.
