Paolo Veronese, the Venetian Renaissance painter (1528–1588) whose deep saturated reds and warm flesh tones defined Venetian-school color. Veronese red refers to the dominant red in The Marriage at Cana: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the matte finish of pigment-in-oil over Venetian gesso.
