Sturdy Salmon (#F8211E) is a true red with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old French estourdi, stunned, reckless — drifted in English to mean robust, well-built. Used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as durable and unfussy — the working browns of saddle leather, the working greens of pasture wool. Sits in the bold-and-warm corner alongside robust and solid.
Named for the flesh of the wild Pacific or Atlantic salmon — Oncorhynchus and Salmo salar — colored by carotenoid pigments in the krill and shrimp the fish eats. A pale, peachy red that sits between coral and apricot, warmer than rose and lighter than vermillion. In farmed salmon the color is added to the feed; in wild salmon, it's diet alone.
