Stately Sangiovese
Stately Sangiovese (#F7404A) is a true red with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Its HSL profile (357°, 92%, 61%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary cyan. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
An adjectival form of state, condition of dignity. Used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for the deep saturated jewel tones of formal ceremony — the deep blue of a robes-of-state, the deep red of a state-banquet velvet. Sits in the bold-and-formal corner alongside imperial and royal, with slightly less institutional weight.
The dominant red grape of central Italy — backbone of Chianti, Brunello, and Vino Nobile. The color refers to a young Brunello di Montalcino: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the optical complexity of well-aged Tuscan wine. Deeper than Chianti, cooler than Tempranillo.
