Diaphanous Hollyhock
Diaphanous Hollyhock (#F6CDDC) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Etymology
From the Greek diaphanēs, transparent — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues with the optical translucency of fine fabric. Diaphanous white, diaphanous pink: very low saturation combined with the optical impression of light passing through. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside sheer.
Alcea rosea, the tall biennial of European cottage gardens whose red, pink, and white flowers spire above the garden in late summer. The color refers to the deep red variety of hollyhock at full bloom: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the matte finish of large mallow-family flowers. Deeper than rose, cooler than coral.
