Resilient Annatto
Resilient Annatto (#F43C27) is a true red with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Latin resiliēns, springing-back — present-participle of resilīre. As a color modifier, resilient implies a saturated-and-recovering-and-flexible quality where the hue maintains its strength under visual pressure. Sits at the bold-and-resilient end of the grid, parallel to tough and hardy in usage.
Bixa orellana, the tropical shrub whose seeds yield a red-orange dye used as food coloring (in cheese, butter, and margarine) and as body paint by the Caribbean and Central American indigenous peoples. The color refers to fresh annatto paste: a saturated, slightly orange red with the matte finish of plant-derived pigment. Warmer than vermillion, drier than tomato.
