Clear Chrome
Clear Chrome (#F3BCA3) is a soft orange with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (19°, 77%, 80%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
From the Latin clarus, bright, distinct — used as a color modifier since the medieval period for hues without haze or mixing. Clear blue sky, clear green water: the implication is moderate saturation combined with optical clarity. Sits at the crisp-bucket center alongside clean and true.
Lead chromate (PbCrO₄) — the chrome orange pigment introduced in 1809, brilliant but heavily toxic and reactive. Largely replaced by cadmium pigments in the twentieth century.
