Honest Kakishibu
Honest Kakishibu (#F2A4A3) is a soft red with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (1°, 75%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary cyan. Etymology
Latin honestus, honorable — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as straightforward and unembellished, the working browns and grays of vernacular architecture rather than the polished shades of court fashion. The color refers to fully cured kakishibu on a sunblind: a soft, slightly muted red-brown with the warmth of tannin oxidation. Drier than rust, more orange than maroon.
