Drifting Hiwa
Drifting Hiwa (#EFF6D2) is a soft yellow with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Old Norse drift, driving — present-participle of drift. As a color modifier, drifting implies a pale-and-slow-moving-and-lateral quality where the hue carries the visual register of cloud-and-fog slow-and-lateral atmospheric movement. The Japanese name for the Eurasian siskin — Spinus spinus — and for the bright yellow-green of its plumage. Hiwa-iro refers to the saturated yellow-green color used in kosode kimono linings and woodblock prints. The color refers to a freshly molted siskin: a saturated, slightly green-shifted yellow with the matte finish of carotenoid feathers.
