Old English coppe-web, spider's-web — adjectival suffix -y. As a color modifier, cobwebby implies a pale-and-thin-and-network-like quality, the pale color of Victorian-Edwardian attic-and-cellar long-undisturbed cobweb-and-spider-silk thin-network-pattern surface.
