Even Crinoline

#efa2cc
Notes

Even Crinoline (#EFA2CC) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (327°, 71%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary teal. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Even
adjective

Old English efen, flat, equal — used as a color modifier since the medieval period for hues that read as uniformly distributed across a surface. Even gray, even tan: the implication is moderate saturation combined with optical uniformity. Sits at the crisp-bucket center alongside steady and balanced.

Crinoline
noun

French crin, horsehair — Originally a stiff horsehair-and-linen petticoat fabric, the term crinoline came to refer to the cage-and-hoop dress structure of the 1850s–60s. The deep-magenta fuchsine-dyed crinoline silk was the dominant Belle-Époque colour. Crinoline color refers to a Worth-period crinoline-skirt silk faille: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the silky finish of fuchsine-dyed jacquard-figured Lyon silk.
