From the Greek elektron, amber — the substance whose static-electric properties were observed by Thales of Miletus. Erdbeere color refers to a freshly hulled Fragaria × ananassa aggregate-fruit cross-section in a Hamburg market stall: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of anthocyanin-rich strawberry-flesh against pale yellow-green achenes.
