Chalky Tyrol
Chalky Tyrol (#EEFEDE) is a soft lime with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (90°, 94%, 93%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
An adjectival form of chalk — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues with the matte finish of chalk pigment. Chalky white, chalky blue: low saturation combined with the optical mattness of micron-scale calcium carbonate. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside powder and dusty.
The Alpine region split between Austria and northern Italy — and the deep green of Tyrolean Alpine pasture and the grün lederhosen of traditional Austrian dress. Tyrol color refers to a Tyrolean Alpine meadow in July: a saturated, slightly cool deep yellow-green with the matte finish of high-altitude wildflower-and-grass.
