Kindled Hyacinthine
Kindled Hyacinthine (#EE8FEF) is a soft violet with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (299°, 75%, 75%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old Norse kynda, to set on fire — past-participle of kindle. As a color modifier, kindled implies a saturated-and-newly-lit quality, the bright color of autumn-bonfire-and-stove-fire initial-combustion emission. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to ignited and aflame in usage.
Purple dye of late-classical antiquity, mentioned in Pliny the Elder's Natural History (77 CE) as a substitute for the more expensive Tyrian purple, derived from a combination of woad and madder. Hyacinthine color refers to a hyacinthine-dyed Roman toga praetexta border: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath woad-and-madder overdye on woolen toga cloth. Slightly cooler than Tyrian.
