Spick Mughal
Spick Mughal (#EDF1AE) is a soft yellow with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (64°, 71%, 81%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old Norse spik-spakr, spike-new — sharing root with spic-and-span. As a color modifier, spick implies a clear-and-newly-cleaned quality where the hue carries the just-polished visual register of fresh-painted-and-fresh-cleaned surfaces. The Mughal Empire (1526–1857) — and the warm yellow palette of Mughal miniature painting, particularly the Mughal Yellow pigment derived from cow urine and used for the saturated yellow robes of Akbar-period court paintings. The color refers to a Mughal jali sandstone screen at the Diwan-i-Khas: a saturated, slightly red-shifted deep yellow with the matte finish of carved sandstone.
