Cobwebby Pearl (#EDDDC3) is a soft amber with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (37°, 54%, 85%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old English coppe-web, spider's-web — adjectival suffix -y. As a color modifier, cobwebby implies a pale-and-thin-and-network-like quality, the pale color of Victorian-Edwardian attic-and-cellar long-undisturbed cobweb-and-spider-silk thin-network-pattern surface. Sits at the pale-and-thin end of the grid, parallel to gossamer and filmy in usage.
The lustrous concretion produced by molluscs (oysters, mussels) in response to an irritant — nacre layers of aragonite and conchiolin laid down over years. The color refers to a high-quality South Sea pearl: a soft, slightly cool off-white with the iridescent satin finish of stacked aragonite plates. Cooler than ivory, warmer than mist, with the gem-trade weight of an organic gem produced one mollusc at a time.
