Liminal Brazilin (#EDCAE0) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Latin līminis, threshold — adjectival suffix -al, sharing root with limen (door-sill). Caesalpinia brasiliensis — a Brazilian legume tree whose heartwood was the colonial-era principal source of brazilin dye, harvested at industrial scale from the Mata Atlântica and giving the country Brazil its English name. Brazilin color refers to a freshly brazilin-mordant-dyed wool: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of multi-bath plant-and-mordant-dyed woolen fiber. Warmer than campeche (logwood).
