Stripped Sunstone
Stripped Sunstone (#EDB29F) is a soft orange with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (15°, 68%, 78%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary cyan. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old English stripian, to strip — past-participle of strip. As a color modifier, stripped implies a clear-and-bared-and-unornamented quality, the crisp color of Cistercian-and-Bauhaus anti-ornamental stripped-down architectural interior. Sits at the crisp-and-stripped end of the grid, parallel to spare and bare in usage.
A feldspar variety with copper-mineral inclusions that scatter light into a flickering orange-red sheen. Mined principally in Oregon (the only US state with sunstone as official gem) and Norway. The color refers to a polished Oregon sunstone cabochon: a saturated, slightly red orange with the optical complexity of light scattering off internal copper plates. Warmer than citrine.
