Greek stróbos, whirling — present-participle of strobe. As a color modifier, strobing implies a saturated-and-pulse-flashing quality, the bright color of concert-strobe-light and photographic-strobe high-frequency-pulse light emission. Rhodonite color refers to a polished Sverdlovsk rhodonite massive specimen: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of manganese-rich silicate. The Greek genus name rhódon (rose) refers to the characteristic deep-pink color of crystalline specimens.
