Skimming Demantoid
Skimming Demantoid (#EBFDDE) is a soft lime with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (95°, 89%, 93%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Old Norse skimr, brightness — present-participle of skim. As a color modifier, skimming implies a pale-and-surface-light-touching quality where the hue carries the visual register of swallow-flight-and-stone-skipping surface-and-glancing rapid-movement. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to glancing and brushing in usage.
A green variety of andradite garnet — known for its high dispersion (more than diamond) and prized in late-Tsarist-era Russian jewelry. Mined principally in the Russian Urals, Namibia, and Madagascar. The color refers to a faceted Russian demantoid: a saturated, slightly cool deep green with the gem's signature internal fire.
