Folded Cherry
Folded Cherry (#EBAEBA) is a soft red with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (348°, 60%, 80%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary teal. Old English fealdan, to fold — past-participle of fold. As a color modifier, folded implies a clear-and-creased-and-arranged quality where the hue carries the visual register of carefully-folded-and-neatly-arranged textile surface. Borrowed into English from the Old North French cherise, the cherry has been a cultivated red since at least the Greek colonies of Pontus on the Black Sea. The color refers specifically to the fruit at full ripeness — a clean, sweet red, brighter than wine and warmer than crimson, somewhere between Prunus avium and the lacquered finish of a Stradivarius.
