Smooth Apricot (#EBAE95) is a soft orange with a warm character. It leans warm, pulling light toward red, orange, and yellow. Naturally inviting, it suits editorial and hospitality contexts. Its HSL profile (17°, 68%, 75%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old English smōþ, level, polished — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as continuous without texture or break. Smooth tan, smooth gray: moderate saturation combined with optical evenness. Sits in the crisp-bucket alongside even.
From the Latin praecox — early ripening — through the Arabic al-barqūq and the Catalan abercoc. Prunus armeniaca, despite the species name, originated in northern China and reached the Mediterranean via the Silk Road. The color is the inside of a sun-ripe apricot at the moment it splits open: a soft, slightly pink orange with the matte finish of velvet-skinned stone fruit. Lighter than peach, warmer than salmon.
