Lucid Tsutsuji
Lucid Tsutsuji (#EAAED3) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (323°, 59%, 80%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. Etymology
Latin lūcidus, clear / bright — derived from lūx (light). As a color modifier, lucid implies a clear-and-readable quality where the hue is unambiguous and free of optical clutter. Sits at the crisp-and-clear end of the grid, parallel to pellucid and plain in usage.
Japanese 躑躅, azalea (Rhododendron indicum and R. obtusum) — a beloved spring-flowering shrub of Japanese gardens, particularly the deep-magenta kirishima-tsutsuji cultivars from Kagoshima's Mt. Kirishima. Tsutsuji color refers to a fully bloomed kirishima-tsutsuji terminal truss in a Kyoto temple garden: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the velvet finish of fresh five-petaled bell-flowers in dense terminal clusters.
