Iced Pearl
Iced Pearl (#E8DABD) is a soft amber with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (40°, 48%, 83%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
The past participle of ice — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for hues with the optical brightness of a thin layer of frozen water. Iced blue, iced pink: very low saturation combined with the slight cool shift of low-temperature surfaces. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside frosted.
The lustrous concretion produced by molluscs (oysters, mussels) in response to an irritant — nacre layers of aragonite and conchiolin laid down over years. The color refers to a high-quality South Sea pearl: a soft, slightly cool off-white with the iridescent satin finish of stacked aragonite plates. Cooler than ivory, warmer than mist, with the gem-trade weight of an organic gem produced one mollusc at a time.
