Surveyed Sugilite
Surveyed Sugilite (#E7B9F1) is a soft violet with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (289°, 67%, 84%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. Old French surveer, to look upon — past-participle of survey. As a color modifier, surveyed implies a clear-and-measured-and-coordinated quality, the crisp color of Mason-Dixon-Line-and-Royal-Navy-Hydrographic scientific-and-cadastral land-and-sea surveying tradition. A manganese-bearing cyclosilicate gem first described in 1944, with major sources in South Africa's Wessels Mine. The color refers to a polished sugilite cabochon: a saturated, slightly red-shifted deep purple with the matte finish of opaque mineral. Cooler than amethyst, warmer than tanzanite, with the gem-trade rarity of a stone produced commercially from one principal mine and priced accordingly.
