Latin refulgēns, shining-back — present-participle of refulgere, sharing root with fulgor (lightning). The Hindi word for turmeric — the South Asian spice and ceremonial pigment used in Hindu haldi pre-wedding rituals and in gor-haldi (turmeric milk).
