Sprayed Zǐsè
Sprayed Zǐsè (#E3D3EA) is a soft violet with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (282°, 35%, 87%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Middle Dutch sprayen, to spray — past-participle of spray. As a color modifier, sprayed implies a pale-and-fine-droplet-and-mist-applied quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern spray-painted automotive-and-furniture finely-atomized-and-fine-droplet-pattern surface-finish. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to misted and atomized in usage.
Chinese 紫色, deep purple color — the formal color name for imperial purple in Chinese color terminology, distinguished from the broader zǐ (purple). Zǐsè color refers to a Qing-dynasty qipao dress in formal court-purple silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath fermentation-and-mineral dye on tussah silk. Slightly warmer than Japanese murasaki.
