Mapped Scarlet
Mapped Scarlet (#E2AEB7) is a soft red with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (350°, 47%, 78%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Latin mappa, cloth / napkin — past-participle of map. From the medieval Latin scarlatum, originally a fine wool cloth rather than a color — the dye came later when the fabric was associated with the bright red of kermes-stained textiles.
