Brushed Stokesia
Brushed Stokesia (#DED8FB) is a soft indigo with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (250°, 81%, 92%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old French brosse, brush — past-participle of brush. As a color modifier, brushed implies a pale-and-fine-stroke-and-textured quality, the pale color of Mid-Century-Modern and Bauhaus brushed-aluminum-and-stainless-steel finely-textured-and-directional metal-finish surface. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to stroked and caressed in usage.
North American Stokes' aster (Stokesia laevis) — a southeastern-coastal-plain Asteraceae native cultivated as a ground-cover perennial with fringed lavender ray-flowers. Stokesia color refers to a fully opened Stokesia laevis flower head: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the velvet finish of finely fringed ray-flowers around a paler central disk. Named for Jonathan Stokes, an English physician-botanist of the 18th century.
