Vitreous Kvass
Vitreous Kvass (#DEAECE) is a soft magenta with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (320°, 42%, 78%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. Latin vitreus, glass-like — derived from vitrum (glass). As a color modifier, vitreous implies a clear-and-glassy quality where the hue carries the optical clarity of polished crown-glass. Sits at the crisp-and-clear end of the grid, parallel to pellucid and crystalline in usage.
Eastern European kvass — a low-alcohol fermented drink made from rye-bread and beet-or-fruit additions, particularly the deep-magenta beet-kvass of Russian and Ukrainian post (Lenten) traditions. Kvass color refers to a freshly poured Russian-style beet-kvass in a clear-glass beer-mug: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of betalain-pigmented fermented-beet liquor on a dark birch-bench tavern surface.
